The Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Jamaica Central Labour Organisation (JCLO) have joined the nation in mourning the passing of Mrs. Alsion Wilson, Consul-General of Jamaica at New York, who served with distinction and unwavering commitment to her country.

Permanent Secretary Mrs. Colette Roberts Risden expressed deep sorrow at the news, describing Mrs. Wilson as “a consummate professional whose warmth, diplomacy, and devotion to Jamaica were felt across every sphere of her service.”

“Through her work with the JCLO and the wider Overseas Employment Programme, Mrs. Wilson was a vital partner in strengthening our relationship with the Jamaican diaspora and ensuring the welfare of our workers abroad,” Mrs. Roberts Risden said. “She had a unique gift for connecting with people — balancing grace and firmness, professionalism and heart. Her presence made every engagement feel purposeful and personal.”

Mrs. Roberts Risden noted that Consul-General Wilson’s leadership was especially evident in her close collaboration with the Ministry’s overseas missions, where she consistently championed Jamaica’s values and the wellbeing of its nationals.

“She embodied the spirit of Jamaica — resilient, warm, and compassionate. The Overseas Employment Programme and all who have had the privilege to work alongside her will remember her as a beacon of service and friendship,” she added.

The JCLO extends heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Wilson’s husband Mr. Omar Wilson, her children Brian and Vanessa, and the extended family.

May her legacy of service, grace, and patriotism continue to inspire us all.
