JCLO to Launch “The Story of Jamaica’s Resilience” at NCAE Labor Forum
The Jamaica Central Labour Organisation (JCLO) is set to debut a major digital campaign titled The Story of Jamaica’s Resilience at this year’s National Council of Agricultural Employers (NCAE) Annual Labor Forum, where the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr, will deliver an address to industry leaders. The video highlights the catastrophic impact of the Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, the widespread damage across Jamaica’s agricultural belt, and the country’s determined response to the crisis.
Designed as both an appeal and an invitation, the campaign showcases the strength of Jamaica’s workforce, the emotional resilience of families recovering from disaster, and the longstanding partnership between Jamaican workers and U.S. employers. It encourages employers not only to continue hiring Jamaican workers through the Overseas Employment Programme, but also to support relief and rebuilding efforts that directly affect workers’ households.
Minister Charles emphasised the campaign’s importance at this moment.
“Our workers have powered America’s agricultural industry for generations. After Melissa, many of their families are rebuilding from severe loss. This campaign invites employers to deepen their partnership with Jamaica by providing opportunities and supporting relief that restores stability to the very communities where these workers come from.”
The video blends documentary-style storytelling with images of storm damage, community recovery, and testimonies that reflect the determination of Jamaican families. It reinforces the theme of empowerment through employment—the idea that work opportunities abroad provide not just income, but dignity, security, and a pathway for families to rebuild stronger.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Colette Roberts Risden noted that the launch reflects the JCLO’s broader mission.
“The programme has always been about creating avenues for empowerment. This campaign shows the human side of the labour partnership and reminds employers that every opportunity offered helps rebuild a life, a home, or a future.”
The digital campaign will be shared across JCLO platforms and with U.S. employers attending the NCAE Forum. It also directs viewers to donate to verified relief channels supporting families affected by the hurricane.
By framing employment as both an economic and humanitarian partnership, The Story of Jamaica’s Resilience positions the Overseas Employment Programme as a force for national recovery—demonstrating how agricultural employers can play a meaningful role in helping Jamaica rebuild.
